CompleteRx presents a remarkable opportunity for a Pharmacy Clinical Operations Manager to deliver outstanding patient care within our affiliated healthcare facilities. We seek an individual with expertise in overseeing programs that enhance the quality of pharmaceutical services while fulfilling the qualifications set forth by ASHP to act as the Director of the Postgraduate Pharmacy Residency Program, supported by CompleteRx's clinical team.

The Pharmacy Clinical Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring that our pharmacists and pharmacy technicians receive continuous education, competency evaluations, and performance enhancement initiatives to elevate the pharmaceutical care provided to patients. This role serves as the primary liaison between the Pharmacy Department and various hospital committees, including medical staff and nursing, to coordinate medication management policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Guarantee safe, suitable, and cost-effective medication therapies for patients in accordance with established guidelines and under the general supervision of the Pharmacy Director.
  • Formulate, implement, and uphold policies and procedures that foster improved patient outcomes through the safe and effective use of medication therapies.
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of a formulary sanctioned by the medical staff.
  • Oversee initiatives aimed at reducing medication errors, adverse drug reactions, and medication misuse through enhanced reporting, analysis, and follow-up with relevant hospital committees.
  • Facilitate and promote education, training, competency assessments, and performance improvement for pharmacists, technicians, and healthcare professionals involved in medication management.
  • Act as a principal advisor and/or member of hospital committees related to medication use.
  • Manage policies and procedures regarding pharmaceutical manufacturer representatives within the hospital.
  • Ensure the availability of high-quality and current drug information resources for pharmacists and other healthcare professionals.
  • Exhibit personal initiative and advocacy for clinical pharmacy programs, planning, and services to enhance inter- and intra-professional communication while aligning with the facility's mission and values.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and follow-up documentation for the Director of Clinical Services and the Pharmacy Director.

Departmental Quality and Operations:

  • Supervise pharmacy personnel as designated by the Pharmacy Director.
  • Assist in developing job descriptions and performance standards related to Clinical Pharmacy.
  • Participate in the evaluation and mentoring of pharmacy staff members.
  • Address the educational needs of the pharmacy team.
  • Review financial statistics monthly and plan expenditures within budgetary constraints.
  • Monitor and justify any expenses that exceed budgeted targets.
  • Ensure adherence to hospital policies and procedures applicable to pharmacy services.
  • Comply with all relevant Federal, State, and local laws, rules, and regulations.

Pharmacy Residency Program Oversight:

  • Manage the pharmacy residency program in alignment with ASHP Accreditation Standards.
  • Serve as a role model for residents, demonstrating professionalism and commitment to advancing pharmacy practice.
  • Provide oversight and continuous improvement for the residency program.
  • Recruit and select residents for the program.
  • Prepare, maintain, and disseminate residency program requirements and policies.
  • Ensure program structure and conduct adhere to established standards.
  • Contribute to pharmacy practice in accordance with accreditation standards.
  • Engage in drug policy and other relevant committees.
  • Identify, develop, and oversee preceptors.

Integration with Organizational Functions:

  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for the pharmacy that aligns with the organization's mission and objectives.
  • Collaborate with associated departments to enhance pharmacy services.
  • Establish and maintain a program that improves the quality of pharmacy services and supports the organization's quality improvement initiatives.

Professional Development and Compliance:

  • Maintain a current pharmacist license.
  • Ensure timely maintenance of Continuing Education (CE) records and licensure.
  • Promote professional growth through participation in workshops, seminars, and professional organizations.
  • Stay informed on clinical pharmacy practices through engagement with relevant pharmacy organizations.
  • Demonstrate teamwork skills in managing medical emergencies.
  • Ensure adherence to medication management policies and procedures.
  • Document interventions, adverse drug reactions, and medication errors as per established protocols.
  • Conduct medication usage evaluations regularly, collecting and analyzing data to generate actionable recommendations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science or PharmD degree is required.
  • Current license to practice pharmacy in the relevant state.
  • Completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY1 residency and a minimum of 3 years of relevant pharmacy practice experience, or
  • Completion of both PGY1 and PGY2 residencies with at least one year of relevant pharmacy practice experience, or
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant pharmacy practice experience without completing an ASHP-accredited residency.
  • Board certification in any BPS specialty is preferred.
  • Leadership or management experience in pharmacy is required, with a minimum of 2 years preferred.
  • Willingness to travel for conferences and team meetings, up to 5%.
