Position Overview:

Under the guidance of Operations Supervisors, the role involves operating buses to deliver scheduled transit services to passengers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough pre-trip inspections of buses, making necessary adjustments or corrections prior to operation.
  • Drive buses along designated routes and adhere to established schedules, safety protocols, and traffic regulations.
  • Manage fare collection and issue day passes to riders.
  • Provide courteous and professional assistance to riders and the public regarding transit services.
  • Support passengers with disabilities and others requiring assistance during boarding and disembarking.
  • Promptly communicate any emergencies, accidents, or unusual incidents via bus radio.
  • Maintain control of the situation during security incidents or accidents until emergency personnel arrive.
  • Complete all required documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Represent the District positively in all interactions.
  • Engage with the public using respect, tact, and sound judgment.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues and promote a team-oriented environment.
  • Consistently report to work punctually and reliably.

Qualifications for Success:

  • Understanding of customer service principles.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with the public and coworkers.
  • Capability to operate transit buses safely while adhering to a strict schedule.

Special Requirements:

  • Must meet the physical qualifications outlined in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations for commercial drivers.
  • Ability to obtain an Oregon Class B driver's permit with necessary endorsements prior to hire and a valid Oregon Class B commercial driver's license within three weeks of hire.
  • All costs associated with licensing and examinations are the applicant's responsibility.
  • Applicants with a commercial driver's license from another state must obtain an Oregon Class B license within 30 days of residency.
  • Demonstrated safe driving record and adherence to traffic laws.
  • No criminal convictions that could pose a risk to safety or property.
  • Successful completion of a drug screening is required.
  • Willingness to work flexible schedules, as services are provided seven days a week.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • At least one year of experience in a customer-facing role.

Working Environment:

  • Exposure to various weather conditions.
  • Variable shift schedules are expected.
  • Frequent interaction with the public and large groups.
