About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Editorial Manager to join our team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. As a key member of our communications team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing editorial strategies to enhance our brand and messaging.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and oversee divisional and university-wide style guidelines for various media, including news stories, press releases, magazine articles, speeches, presentations, reports, web content, advertising copy, newsletters, magazines, social media posts, and promotional text.
- Provide creative ideas and support productivity goals by serving as a leader and mentor in the implementation of an integrated marketing approach to communication projects through our project management system.
- Oversee aspects of editorial content at a high level, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and alignment with the division's and university's mission.
- Write and copy-edit a wide range of communications, including news stories, press releases, electronic newsletters, presentations, scripts, reports, web content development, and promotional copy.
- Help train professional employees and maintain the editorial content calendar across communicators, ensuring a high quality of work and timely delivery of services.
- Collaborate with various stakeholders to create compelling and informative content that resonates with students, faculty, and the broader community.
- Maintain joint partnerships within the Division of Student Affairs and serve on committees and working groups as needed or desired.
- Report directly to the Assistant Director of Communications for Student Affairs and work cross-collaboratively with various stakeholders.
About the Ideal Candidate
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced editorial manager who possesses excellent writing, editing, and communication skills. The ideal candidate will have a degree in communications, writing, English, or a related field, and considerable years of professional writing and editing experience. They will also have experience writing in AP Style, demonstrated excellence in writing and communication skills, and proficiency in word processing, internet and web-based research, and electronic modes of communication.
Preferred Qualifications
- Supervision and personnel management experience.
- Public relations or marketing experience in an educational environment.
- Experience using project management systems and social media management tools.
- Knowledge of marketing strategy and current best practices using inclusive language.
- Experience with content and project management systems.
