About the Role
  • Process, file, and ensure timely payment of all state and federal royalties and taxes, including amendments.
  • Manage the filing and payment of state severance taxes and related amendments in New Mexico.
  • Stay updated on NMOGA guidelines and communicate any changes that could impact the business.
Key Responsibilities
  • Audit and reconcile state and federal royalty and severance tax accounts.
  • Collaborate with severance tax consultants to ensure compliance and maximize available deductions.
  • Process, file, and document all severance tax exemptions and deductions.
  • Work closely with land and regulatory teams to ensure timely lease setups with state and federal entities and proper filing for deductions.
  • Prepare monthly severance tax analyses for financial close processes.
  • Lead state or federal audits, coordinating with various departments to provide necessary documentation, responding promptly to audit findings, and keeping all stakeholders informed of audit progress.
  • Ensure adherence to existing SOX controls.
  • Provide support for special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 4-5 years of experience in oil and gas revenue accounting, including state severance tax and federal royalty reporting in New Mexico.
  • Experience with Quorum accounting software is preferred but not required.
