Position Overview

Delivers surgical assistance in the operating theater alongside other designated medical functions under the supervision of the lead surgeon.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides comprehensive surgical assistance in the operating room. 10%
  • Aids the surgeon in preparation and throughout the procedure. 15%
  • Removes drains, tubes, and catheters as needed. 10%
  • Closes surgical incisions effectively. 15%
  • Supports patient consultations and takes on call duties when required. 10%
  • Conducts all necessary documentation, summaries, correspondence, and paperwork for care and billing purposes. 10%
  • Engages in educational initiatives offered by the organization regarding capitated medicine and its implications for physician practice patterns. 5%
  • Involvement in:
Development of quality assurance programs

Implementation of Utilization Management strategies

Selection of management information systems

Creation of patient education surveys
Design of patient satisfaction surveys 5%

  • Aids in formulating operational and capital budgets. 5%
  • Participates in operational evaluations to identify revenue enhancement, cost reductions, consolidation efficiencies, and billing opportunities. 5%
  • Assists in the post-operative management of patients, including daily rounds and wound evaluations. 10%
Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

This is a non-management role that will report to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.

Educational Requirements

Completion of a Physician Assistant Program or equivalent certification

Experience Requirements

1 year - Relevant Clinical Experience

Certifications/Registrations/Licenses Required

NCCPA - PHYSICIAN ASSISTANTS - C039

Specific Acceptable Credentials (if applicable)

Prescriptive Authority for South Carolina

South Carolina Controlled Substance license; Federal DEA license

Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants

Alternative Qualifications

Completion of a Physician Assistant Surgical Residency Program or an accredited Surgical Physician Assistant graduate program
