Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

As a Certified Surgical First Assistant, you will utilize advanced knowledge and experience to assess patient health needs, collaborate with the healthcare team to coordinate patient care, and anticipate the needs of the surgeon to improve overall quality of care. You will work in a fast-paced operating room environment, utilizing your training and expertise to provide high-quality patient care.

Employment Qualifications

· High School Graduate or equivalent

· Current Certified Surgical First Assistant certification

· Current BCLS certification

· Previous experience in the Perioperative setting with a minimum of 2 years' experience as a Surgical Technologist or approved by the Administrative Director

Essential Job Functions

· Provides direct and indirect patient care in surgical specialties, utilizing training and expertise to work with diverse populations and integrate individual patient/surgeon preferences into the plan of care.

· Demonstrates the ability to work effectively in a team environment, communicating with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care.

· Assists in prepping and draping patients for surgical procedures, and helps to position patients to reduce potential injury.

· Demonstrates competency in visualization, retraction of tissue, and hemostasis to control blood loss during surgical procedures.

· Participates in room turnover procedures, including set-up and clean-up protocols, to ensure a safe and efficient operating room environment.

· Acts and communicates in a professional and respectful manner with patients, physicians, and other hospital personnel to enhance a spirit of cooperation and mutual respect and trust among members of the patient care team.

· Utilizes professional practice standards, such as AORN and AST, in the delivery of care, and holds others accountable to the same standards.

· Takes the initiative to identify problems, offer solutions, and follow up with necessary interventions in a timely manner under the direction of the RN or Supervisor.

· Makes decisions reflecting knowledge of facts and good judgment within the Certified Surgical First Assistant scope of practice.

· Provides support for new initiatives and assists with positive change management by adapting to the demands of the situation.

· Supports surgical service's efforts to exceed patient satisfaction rates and employee engagement, recruitment, and retention targets.

· Adheres to BSMH rules, regulations, and policies.
