This role of Legal Research Specialist is pivotal in delivering reference and research support to attorneys, paralegals, associates, and other team members.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct comprehensive legal, corporate, financial, and general research for legal professionals and clients utilizing a well-rounded mix of information resources.
- Maintain a deep understanding of the scope, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness of information resources, ensuring the most relevant tools are utilized.
- Provide detailed reports summarizing research findings when necessary, complete with explanations and data.
- Train staff on the effective use of information resources; develop and conduct presentations and orientations to share knowledge on relevant tools.
- Assist in the creation and updating of guides, newsletters, and intranet content, promoting the use of library services and information resources.
- Stay informed about new developments, technologies, and innovations in legal and business research.
- Evaluate and update practice resources, websites, and internal library systems.
- Act as a liaison between research initiatives and designated practice groups, participating in meetings and providing valuable feedback on information and training needs.
- Oversee library collections in designated offices, managing resources and making informed decisions regarding renewals or discontinuations.
- Produce new publications, manage invoices, and contribute to the library's budget planning.
- Administer and maintain electronic resources within assigned offices or practice groups, coordinating renewal processes and optimizing resource usage.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in library or information science from an institution accredited by the American Library Association.
- Focus on law librarianship or legal research, or from an institution accredited by the American Bar Association, along with relevant experience.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a law library setting, preferably within a law firm environment.
- Exceptional customer service skills.
- Strong written, verbal, and editing communication abilities.
- Familiarity with a variety of legal and business information resources, including Westlaw Edge, Lexis+, Bloomberg Law, and others.
- Experience in developing and delivering comprehensive training programs tailored for legal professionals.
- Ability to support attorneys and team members across various locations using diverse communication methods.
- Knowledge of copyright regulations relevant to library operations.
- Experience with EOS integrated library systems.
- Proficiency in data collection, organization, analysis, and visual representation of information.
