Position Title: Assistant Professor

Department: School of Management

Position Overview:

The School of Management at San Jose State University is seeking to appoint an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) specializing in Strategic Management. The successful candidate will primarily teach courses in Strategic Management, with additional opportunities to instruct in Organizational Theory, Business and Society, and potentially Business Law. Research interests should align with strategic management, particularly emphasizing innovation and its implications at both organizational and societal levels.

The School of Management (SOM) is home to undergraduate concentrations in Management and Human Resource Management, serving approximately 1,400 students. The faculty comprises 17 tenured/tenure-track members and 30 lecturers, delivering courses across various undergraduate and graduate programs. Required Qualifications:

  • A doctorate from an accredited institution, with scholarly active status under AACSB standards. The doctoral degree must be conferred by the appointment date.
  • Demonstrated teaching excellence or potential effectiveness in strategic management and related fields.
  • Evidence of scholarly publications or potential for a strong research agenda in strategic management or related disciplines.
  • Interest in engaging with professionals in Silicon Valley and connecting students from diverse backgrounds to the business community.
  • Awareness and sensitivity to the educational objectives of a diverse student population.

Preferred Qualifications:

Priority will be given to candidates whose research focuses on strategic management with a connection to innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Delivering courses in strategic management primarily at the undergraduate level, with opportunities for graduate-level instruction.
  • Maintaining an active research agenda and publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Engaging with a diverse student body in both undergraduate and graduate programs.
  • Participating in shared governance and fulfilling other service commitments within the university.
  • Creating inclusive course materials and teaching strategies that cater to a diverse student population.

Other Duties:

All faculty members are mandated reporters under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and must comply with related requirements. Faculty may also be designated as Campus Security Authorities and are required to complete necessary training.
