The CNC Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring the quality of CNC machined products and processes. This role involves working closely with the production team to guarantee that parts meet stringent quality standards and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Quality Assurance & Control:
- Monitor and inspect CNC machined components to ensure they meet specified quality standards and tolerances.
- Develop and implement quality control procedures and inspection methods for CNC processes.
- Analyze dimensional and performance data from CNC-machined parts to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Process Improvement:
- Identify and resolve quality issues in CNC processes by implementing corrective and preventive actions.
- Work closely with CNC machinists and operators to optimize processes, reduce scrap, and improve overall quality.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance machining quality and production efficiency.
- Inspection & Testing:
- Conduct regular inspections and tests on CNC parts using CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machines), calipers, micrometers, and other precision tools.
- Develop detailed inspection plans and documentation for new parts and revisions.
- Perform root cause analysis on non-conforming parts and lead efforts to address any defects or failures.
- Collaboration & Communication:
- Collaborate with design, production, and engineering teams to ensure proper integration of quality controls in the CNC machining process.
- Provide technical guidance and support to machinists and operators on quality best practices and procedures.
- Communicate with suppliers regarding quality requirements, audits, and supplier quality issues.
- Documentation & Compliance:
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, testing, and corrective actions taken.
- Ensure compliance with ISO standards, regulatory requirements, and customer-specific quality requirements.
- Prepare reports and documentation for audits and internal quality reviews.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3-5 years of experience in CNC machining and quality assurance.
- Strong knowledge of CNC machines, machining processes, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Experience with inspection tools and techniques, including CMM and other precision measurement equipment.
- Proficient in statistical process control (SPC) and root cause analysis.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 or other relevant quality management systems.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
Preferred Skills:
- Lean manufacturing and Six Sigma certification.
- Experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in CAD software and experience with CAM programming.
