Job Summary

This position plays a vital role in community outreach, providing information on university studies and enrolling patients when appropriate. The successful candidate will also refer community members to available resources, including genetic counseling, cancer genetics education resources, and psychosocial support resources.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform community outreach to inform members about research opportunities available at the University, using expertise in community-engaged health work to communicate in culturally relevant language.
  • Enroll interested individuals in research and assist in linking participants with other studies throughout the University.
  • Refer community members to available resources, including genetic counseling, cancer genetics education resources, and psychosocial support resources.
  • Assist in arranging transportation to facilitate study enrollment.
  • Provide follow-up with participants by phone regarding study enrollment and satisfaction.
  • Work with community members to support cancer genetics community education and engagement initiatives.
  • Contact study coordinators and genetic service providers to provide referrals and track enrollment.
  • Assist in building partnerships with community agencies to increase knowledge of and access to cancer genetic testing, research, and education.
  • Utilize cancer genetics training and knowledge to perform preliminary assessment of hereditary cancer risk.
  • Foster new and leverage existing relationships with community health workers and coalitions across the St. Louis community, providing relevant cancer genetics topical training sessions, as needed.
  • Maintain proper documentation and record keeping.
Working Conditions

This position typically involves sitting at a desk or table, with occasional repetitive wrist, hand, or finger movement. Office equipment is used regularly.

Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent high school certification.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association, Basic Life Support - American Heart Association, Basic Life Support - American Red Cross, Community Health Worker - Missouri Credentialing Board Inc, Community Health Worker within 6 months - Missouri Credentialing Board Inc.
  • No specific work experience is required for this position.
  • Interactive communication skills with the ability to work with patients and a multidisciplinary team of researchers, genetic counselors, and study coordinators.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with or interest in learning about cancer or genetics.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Community Health (3 Years).
  • Attention to Accuracy, Cancer Research, Deadline Management, Genetic Research, Interactive Communication, Interpersonal Communication, Outstanding Organizational Abilities.
