Job Description

Position Overview: Food Forward is seeking a dedicated and proactive Facility Maintenance Specialist who is committed to ensuring that our environments are clean, secure, and conducive to effective operations. The Facility Maintenance Specialist will oversee the maintenance and general upkeep of Food Forward's operational spaces, including a produce warehouse and office area spanning approximately 30,000 square feet. This role will report to the Warehouse Manager and collaborate closely with the Operations Manager and other team members to maintain seamless operations. The ideal candidate will approach their responsibilities with a focus on safety and efficiency, proactively addressing any issues or opportunities for improvement. This newly created position requires adaptability and a willingness to respond to evolving needs and circumstances. Additionally, the role will involve supporting special events and various projects across our multiple warehouse locations. Above all, the candidate must prioritize safety and demonstrate strong teamwork to help prevent injuries and foster safe, efficient working environments throughout the organization.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Sweep, scrub, mop, and vacuum floors.
  • Conduct monthly and quarterly maintenance of walk-in coolers, including:
    • Cleaning and preventative maintenance
    • Ensuring floor drains are clean and free from clogs
  • Collect and empty trash receptacles.
  • Dust all surfaces, including walls, furniture, and equipment.
  • Clean, organize, and restock offices, restrooms, and dining areas.
  • Adhere to established cleaning protocols.
  • Follow guidelines for the use and storage of cleaning chemicals and machinery to avoid damage to facilities.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks both inside and outside.
  • Notify supervisors of any necessary repairs or enhancements to building systems.
  • Comply with proper disposal methods for hazardous waste materials.
  • Maintain safety checks in accordance with the Injury and Illness Prevention Plan.
  • Coordinate with external contractors and vendors.
  • Conduct ad hoc research as needed.
  • Undertake any additional duties as assigned by supervisors.

Minimum Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.
  • Familiarity with standard cleaning techniques and procedures.
  • Experience operating cleaning equipment, such as vacuum cleaners and floor buffers.
  • Understanding of occupational safety regulations (OSHA).
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including Google and Microsoft Suites, and internet navigation.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds repeatedly.
  • Capability to sit, stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, bend, lift, twist, kneel, crouch, crawl, pull, push, carry, grasp, reach, and stoop as required.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions for extended periods.
  • Willingness to work in both indoor and outdoor environments.
