Position Overview

The Progressive Care Unit (PCU) is an 18-bed transitional care area from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), focusing on patients requiring specialized care in trauma, urgent dialysis, cardiac conditions, strokes, and ventilator support. The nurse-to-patient ratio is maintained at 1:3 or 1:4, ensuring high-quality care.

General Responsibilities:

The Registered Nurse is responsible for assessing patient needs, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for individuals or families under their care. As a licensed professional, the nurse is accountable for the quality of care provided.

  • Provide leadership within a professional nursing environment.
  • Collaborate as a team player, supporting colleagues through mentorship and role modeling.
  • Delegate tasks based on patient needs and the competencies of nursing staff.
  • Ensure a safe environment by considering patient conditions and the complexity of interventions.

  • Engage in interdisciplinary teams to assess clinical care and health services.
  • Advocate for patient safety initiatives.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives specific to the department.
  • Supervise and evaluate the practice of assigned nursing staff.
  • Utilize the nursing process to create individualized care plans in collaboration with patients and families.
  • Analyze patient health status and determine care needs based on established norms.
  • Monitor changes in patient conditions and communicate effectively with the healthcare team.
  • Accept assignments beyond the primary unit as needed.
  • Commit to continuous professional development and lifelong learning.
  • Engage in professional organizations to promote nursing advancement.
  • Seek learning opportunities to enhance clinical skills and knowledge.
  • Participate in peer reviews and seek feedback to identify strengths and areas for improvement.
  • Adhere to time and attendance policies.
  • Evaluate patient and family satisfaction continuously.
  • Engage in initiatives aimed at improving patient satisfaction.
  • Promote effective communication that centers on patients and their families.
  • Address and resolve patient and family concerns.
  • Manage time effectively to fulfill responsibilities within the designated work shift.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
  • Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
  • Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
  • Current RN licensure in the state of Pennsylvania or multi-state licensure through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
  • CPR certification

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in a nursing specialty area
