Job Summary

As a key member of our manufacturing group, you will be responsible for monitoring and directing our hourly Day Shift personnel in the production of a defined product line or business segment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and control work groups to meet production schedules and ensure processes and methods are in accordance with product specifications, quality standards, and schedule requirements.
  • Lead and motivate employees to consistently meet or exceed production numbers, and develop and deliver new and ongoing training for all employees as needed.
  • Monitor work performance, quality, and output, and take corrective and preventive action as necessary.
  • Participate in the hiring process, including candidate evaluation, interviewing, and selection, and monitor operating supply levels and initiate orders as necessary.
  • Review routings, work instructions, etc. for accuracy and work with Manufacturing Engineers to make corrections, and manage employee attendance and review and approve time off requests.
  • Monitor safe work practices and provide direction to employees, and take preventive action to ensure safe work practices are followed.
  • Monitor production processes to ensure established controls are met, and recommend process / fixtures improvements, and work with MEs on process / fixtures improvements and cost reductions.
  • Cordinate and monitor 5S activities and practices, and counsel employees and work with HR to implement formal discipline as required.
  • Monitor staffing levels and schedules overtime, and recommend staffing level adjustments when appropriate.
  • Attend Quality Manual Standards Training and apply Quality Standards accordingly, and perform other work duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities

This job directly supervises as many as sixty non-exempt, unionized, production workers.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in business administration, production management, or engineering preferred.
  • Extensive experience in a manufacturing environment, including three to five years as a supervisor, production lead, or working foreman.
  • Knowledge of Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing techniques.
  • Ability to perform problem analysis and problem resolution.
  • Strong project supervisory skills.
  • Ability to think ahead and plan over a 3-month time span.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with MS Office applications.
