About the Role

As a Clinical Laboratory Scientist in our Core Lab, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care by performing complex laboratory tests and analyzing data. Your attention to detail and ability to work accurately under pressure will be essential in ensuring the integrity of patient results.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure specimens received by the laboratory are acceptable for testing by applying the appropriate criteria and preparing reagents as necessary.
  • Label, accession, and distribute specimens to maintain patient identification integrity throughout processing.
  • Initiate orders for blood and/or blood components from the appropriate supplier.
  • Follow hospital/laboratory safety and infection control policies, reporting variances to section supervisors as needed.
  • Use computer systems to compare patient results to previous results, investigating discrepancies and reporting test results within established turn-around times.
  • Prepare and interpret gram stains and other wet and dry preparations for bacteriology and parasitology.
  • Perform routine procedures, including ABORH typing and retesting, antibody detection and identification, compatibility testing, and serology procedures.
  • Prepare blood components while maintaining aseptic technique and proper storage.
  • Evaluate serological reactivity to assist with antibody identification and crossmatch incompatibilities.
  • Follow universal precautions when dealing with blood or body fluids and disinfect countertops at the end of the shift.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain clinical laboratory instruments and equipment, troubleshooting basic malfunctions and documenting in the action log.
  • Analyze quality control material for each procedure, recording values according to section policy and reporting to technical supervisors when results are outside established limits.
  • Perform comparison studies of precision, accuracy, and linearity on new or existing procedures, recording proficiency surveys and routing form and reagent quality control as specified in the quality control manuals.
  • Assist in the clinical orientation of new or less skilled laboratory personnel as requested by the section supervisor.
Requirements
  • Clinical Lab Generalist licensed by the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners as CLG or CLS.
  • Ability to work nights (United States of America).
