Position Summary
The Utilities Foreman, in collaboration with the Superintendents, oversees the daily operations of wet utilities on the construction site. This role involves supervising on-site personnel, coordinating with inspectors, managing schedules, and ensuring effective communication with subcontractors while maintaining a well-organized and safety-focused work environment.
Compensation
The total compensation for this position ranges from $82,300 to $139,000 annually.
Key Responsibilities
- Exhibit a thorough understanding of project specifications and scope to ensure construction aligns with design, quality, and safety standards while adhering to budget and timelines.
- Interpret and apply project contract documents, plans, specifications, and RFIs.
- Implement OSHA and project safety protocols, taking corrective actions as necessary.
- Ensure that all team members practice safety measures, utilize appropriate PPE, and comply with OSHA regulations.
- Maintain accurate daily and weekly reports of project activities, including as-built and underground utility sketches.
- Recommend adjustments to project schedules to enhance crew efficiency and productivity.
- Verify that subcontractors meet all requirements and maintain project specifications.
- Conduct construction activities such as site preparation, operation, and closure, as well as proper testing of completed work.
- Operate various vehicles and equipment, including trucks, tractors, and excavators, as needed.
- Provide leadership and support to team members, facilitating their training and development.
- Gather and verify crew payroll information for accuracy.
- Ensure daily and weekly cleanup by crew and subcontractors.
- Regularly check primary email for company communications.
Qualifications
Essential Skills:
- Extensive knowledge of heavy construction practices.
- Experience operating a range of heavy construction machinery and the ability to train others.
- Capability to read and interpret construction plans and grading.
- In-depth understanding of OSHA utility trenching safety standards.
- Familiarity with federal, state, and local installation codes for wet utilities.

Education and Experience
Required: High school diploma or GED, willingness to learn, and ability to handle stress professionally. Completion of a 10-hour OSHA Safety class within 30 days of assignment.
Preferred: Construction degree and two years of supervisory experience in the wet utilities sector, along with a broad understanding of trenching principles and OSHA compliance.
Language and Math Skills
This position requires proficiency in English for effective communication with co-workers and clients, as well as the ability to perform basic math calculations.
Physical Demands
The role necessitates physical capability to navigate undeveloped project sites, sit, stand, and operate vehicles for extended periods, and lift up to 50 pounds intermittently.
Work Environment
Outdoor work is subject to varying weather conditions and may involve exposure to muddy terrain. When operating machinery, expect continuous movement and vibration.
