Responsibilities- Develop and implement lesson plans that meet the requirements of the West Virginia College and Career Readiness program and the district's curriculum program.
- Use technology to enhance the teaching and learning process.
- Deliver rigorous instruction to all students, taking into account their individual learning styles.
- Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
- Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the West Virginia Department of Education and board policies.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
- Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to support school-wide academic performance goals and instructional activities.
- Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
- Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
- Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
- Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formative and informative testing.
- Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned, including sponsoring, planning, and implementing co-curricular activities/programs.
- Maintain a positive role model for students.
- Support the mission of the school district.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Manage student behavior in accordance with West Virginia Board of Education Policy 4373 (Expected Behavior in Safe and Supportive Schools) and student handbook.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers to support student learning.
- Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
- Participate in staff development activities to improve Standards of Practice for self and colleagues.
- Keep informed and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
- Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
- Adhere to the Employee Code of Conduct as outlined in Mineral County School's Policy 3210.
- Valid teaching certificate licensing the individual to teach in the specialization and grade levels, pursuant to West Virginia Code §18A-3-2.
- Criminal background check conducted pursuant to West Virginia Code §18-5-15c and/or §18A-3-10, as appropriate.
- Meets the qualifications outlined in West Virginia Code §18A-3-2a.
