Teaching load is based on student enrollment and staffing needs. The adjunct faculty contract contains no expectation or guarantee of continued employment.
Duties and Tasks:
  1. Teach specific classes in the designated discipline.
  2. Develop course syllabi and instructional materials.
  3. Maintain records, assign grades, and assess student progress.
  4. Adhere to policies, procedures, and regulations of NOVA and the VCCS.
  5. Maintain current competence in the particular discipline or field of specialization.
Essential Functions:
As a part of the primary responsibility to provide quality instruction, the College expects each faculty member to meet assigned classes regularly; submit required records and reports routinely; teach the prescribed courses of study with the established texts; and adhere to the statement on professional ethics in accordance with College policies, procedures, and regulations.Minimum Qualifications:

  2. Master degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Studio Arts
  3. Qualifying degrees and coursework should be from a regionally accredited institution
Preferred Qualifications:
  1. MFA in Studio Arts
  2. Experience teaching Two-Dimensional Design, Three-Dimensional Design, Color Sculpture, Drawing, and/or Ceramics coursework at the college level
  3. Prior experience teaching in higher education
  4. Experience teaching in classroom, hybrid, and online formats.
  5. Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive working and learning environment.
  6. Experience teaching students from diverse language backgrounds and varying levels of proficiency.
