Location: Torrance, CA, US

Position Summary:

As a Fabrication Specialist - Welding, you will be responsible for the assembly and welding of copper pipes, performing tests, charging systems with refrigerants, and troubleshooting refrigeration systems. This role requires a diverse skill set to carry out electromechanical and mechanical assembly tasks to construct intricate instruments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute various assembly tasks utilizing knowledge of techniques, tools, materials, and equipment.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and utilize necessary safety equipment in compliance with company policies.
  • Shape, bend, and cut copper tubing according to specified designs and quality standards using appropriate tools.
  • Fabricate and clean pipes with ultrasonic machines.
  • Perform brazing of refrigeration components using oxyacetylene techniques.
  • Conduct leak checks on brazed assemblies using vacuum pumps and refrigerant leak detectors.
  • Reclaim and charge refrigerants, ensuring proper disposal of waste in accordance with environmental regulations.
  • Assemble electromechanical instruments or parts into subassemblies or complete instruments using hand and power tools.
  • Determine assembly methods and sequences when complete information is not available, or follow provided instructions and schematics.
  • Fit, align, calibrate, and adjust components to meet operational and quality standards.
  • Work from engineering drawings and receive instructions from supervisors.
  • Perform quality inspections of assembled products throughout the production process.
  • Maintain accurate records of assembly processes and report any issues encountered.
  • Utilize hand tools such as wire strippers, crimpers, and wrenches as needed.

Equipment Maintenance Responsibilities:

  • Follow maintenance guidelines for equipment, including cleaning and lubrication.
  • Ensure proper setups to prevent equipment damage during normal operations.
  • Calibrate pressure gauges and monitor hazardous waste disposal.

Additional Duties:

  • Continuously seek improvements in work processes and suggest enhancements.
  • Maintain organized and functional assembly areas.
  • Collaborate with peers and supervisors to foster effective communication.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to group discussions.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; training in oxy-acetylene brazing preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience in brazing copper tubing for refrigeration systems.
  • 3-5 years of assembly experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and schematics.
  • Proficiency in basic math and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work safely with hazardous equipment and materials.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs with assistance.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
