Tooling Specialist III

We are seeking a highly skilled Tooling Specialist III to join our team at Howmet Aerospace Inc. in Torrance, California. As a key member of our fastening systems team, you will be responsible for designing, building, and repairing machine tooling for various manufacturers' components to produce fasteners in accordance with work order specifications.
Key Responsibilities- Design and manufacture machine and/or tooling component parts.
- Assemble, operate, and test special machines/tooling.
- Operate all types of metal fabricating machine tools, sheet metal tools, hand and power equipment, and precision measuring devices.
- Monitor and check own work to ensure it meets specifications.
- Plan operation, make tools required, and perform various machining operations by reading blueprints, engineering sketches, and/or by general verbal instruction.
- Get proper material for job from raw material racks and cut material.
- Set-up for machining and assembly operations of tools; and may make partial or complete model of part. Perform machining operation to make various tooling.
- Work with high-speed, tool and carbon steels, carbide, and other materials.
- Set-up and operate any and all Tool Room machines, including lathes, mills, shaper, grinders, and drill press.
- Perform dimensional inspection by using micrometers, indicators, calipers, and comparators.
- May machine repair parts and assist in machine repair. May perform miscellaneous tasks such as silver soldering, hard brazing, bonding, and arc or gas welding.
- Take parts to heat treat if required and fill out heat treat order to reflect requirements.
- Finish grind by using surface, ID/OD, or jig grinder after heat treat if required.
- Clean machine by wiping and/or using solvent or machine cleaner.
- High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of related experience.
- Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
- This position entails access to export-controlled items and employment offers are conditioned upon an applicant's ability to lawfully obtain access to such items.
