Job Description

Teledyne FLIR LLC is seeking a highly skilled Machinist to join our team. As a Machinist, you will be responsible for setting up and operating conventional, special purpose, and numerical control (NC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manufacture jigs, fixtures, dies, molds, machine tools, cutting tools, gauges, and production tooling used in manufacturing processes.
  • Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining.
  • Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers.
  • Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
  • Start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjust machine controls or control media as required.
  • Verify conformance of finished workpiece to specifications.
  • Set up and operate machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
  • Fits and assembles parts into complete assembly.
  • Verify dimensions and alignment of assembly.
  • Install machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and test operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance.
  • Develop specifications from general description and draw sketch of part or product to be fabricated.
  • Confer with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Minimum 6 years of experience required
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
  • Ability to write simple correspondence
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations and to other employees of the organization
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
Preferred Skills and Abilities:
  • Use of measuring tools: Vernier and Digital Calipers, Micrometers, Indicator tools, and electronic measuring tools
  • Hand tools: Pliers, screwdrivers and wrenches
  • Machine tools: Drilling machines: bench, floor, radial and horizontal Milling machines: horizontal, vertical and boring mills Turning machines: lathes (turret and vertical turret)
  • Grinding machines: surface, cylindrical and center-less- Work holders: vises, chucks, indexing tools, jigs and fixtures
  • Tool holders: cutter adapters, extensions, tool posts, index-able turrets, quick change adapters, arbors and collets
  • Cutting tools: milling cutters, face mills, shell mills, and mills, form cutters, drills, reamers, taps, countersinks, counter-bores, core drills; various turning tools, form tools and threading tools
  • Mold tools: break down and set up of molds, cavities, inserts and core pins
Salary Range:

$41,800.00-$55,880.00
