Compensation and Benefits

Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough patient histories and physical examinations, updating the status of patients scheduled for follow-up visits.
- Interpret diagnostic imaging, including x-rays, and order further imaging studies such as CT scans and MRIs.
- Perform joint aspirations and injections, applying casts, splints, and braces under physician supervision.
- Manage the removal of staples and sutures, and prescribe medications as necessary.
- Engage with patients in the clinic, both independently and under supervision, documenting clinic progress notes and developing treatment plans with physician approval.
Additional Duties
- Assist in managing physician calls and ensure accurate documentation of all patient interactions.
- Conduct follow-up calls as required and participate in on-call duties as negotiated.
- Optional involvement in surgical procedures on a weekly basis.
Communication and Collaboration
Internal communications involve collaboration with physicians, other physician assistants, nurse practitioners, administrators, and both clinical and non-clinical staff. Externally, interactions include patients, their families, outside referral sources, hospital personnel, vendors, and regulatory or insurance representatives.
Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited physician assistant program with a completed residency.
- Current Illinois state licensure as a Physician Assistant.
- Preferred training in orthopedic care, with a minimum of 1-2 years of experience.
- Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies.
- Active certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- Current CPR certification; ACLS certification is desirable.
Experience and Skills
- A minimum of two years of experience in a clinical setting, either in a physician's office or hospital.
- Demonstrated ability to make independent clinical decisions regarding patient care.
- Proven competence, judgment, and professional integrity in clinical practice.
- Experience in diagnosing and treating a diverse patient population.
- Familiarity with managed care principles and experience with Medicare populations.
- Proficient in practice management and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Strong organizational skills, capable of managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective documentation and information sharing.
- Ability to foster constructive working relationships with colleagues and patients.
- Strong analytical skills to interpret complex instructions and resolve problems effectively.
