We are seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to join our team at UnityPoint Health. As a Certified Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting our healthcare team.
Responsibilities:
Assist healthcare providers with patient care, including obtaining vital signs, preparing patients for examinations and procedures, and providing basic care as needed.
Track patient follow-up appointments, laboratory tests, and procedures, and ensure timely communication with patients and healthcare providers.
Schedule referrals for patients with specialists or outpatient services as requested by healthcare providers.
Complete necessary forms and requisitions for referrals and lab testing, including accurate CPT/ICD-10 coding.
Provide patient education and support, answering questions and addressing concerns in a professional and empathetic manner.
Document patient information accurately and thoroughly in the electronic health record, using standardized workflows and processes.
Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies, including the health department, and maintain confidentiality of patient information.
Participate in team meetings and stay informed about clinic and department activities, as well as organizational initiatives.
Meet departmental work schedules and maintain regular attendance.
Comply with CLIA, OSHA, Safety, and Risk Management guidelines, as well as Personnel policies and procedures.
Monitor environmental conditions to ensure the security of protected health information.
Behave in a manner consistent with all Compliance and HIPAA policies and procedures.
Initiate quality and customer service improvements by striving to exceed customer expectations.
Balance individual and team responsibilities, contribute to positive team goals, and prioritize the success of the team.
Perform other duties as requested by the Clinic Administrator to facilitate smooth and effective office operations.
Requirements:
Graduate of an accredited program for Medical Assistants.
High school diploma required if work is performed in a complex CLIA lab.
Current CMA certification from AAMA, NCCT, AMT, or NHA.
Mandatory Reporter certification.
CPR certification.
Meets educational/competency requirements per policy.
Previous clinical experience in a medical office preferred.
Computer data entry experience.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to work as a team member.
Ability to understand and apply guidelines, policies, and procedures.
Able to write, read, comprehend, and speak fluent English.
Strong computer skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
