Job Summary

Virginia Commonwealth University's Facilities Management Department is seeking a skilled Electrical and Ventilation Trades Specialist to join its Facilities Operations team. The successful candidate will utilize their knowledge of electrical and mechanical trades to perform preventive maintenance, repair, and installation of building infrastructure, primarily exhaust and fume hood systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive maintenance, repair, and installation of electrical and mechanical systems, including exhaust and fume hood systems.
  • Provide exemplary customer service to faculty, staff, and students, supporting the University's mission of teaching, high-impact research, and creative expression.
  • Identify and document system deficiencies using diagnostic tools and advise management of tasks requiring priority attention.
  • Provide quality workmanship and service to maximize system availability and minimize unscheduled downtime.
Requirements
  • Several years' experience in commercial/institutional electrical or mechanical maintenance.
  • Electrical or HVAC courses I, II, III, code classes, basic and advanced training or equivalent combination of experience and trade/craft training.
  • State of Virginia Journeyman Electrical or HVAC License required or the ability to obtain within the first year of service.
  • Ability to diagnose, repair, service, and install a wide variety of electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing to supervision, other employees, and customers.
  • Knowledge of appropriate building codes.
  • Ability to use a wide variety of hand tools and power equipment.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Ability to be on-call required.
