This position requires strong leadership skills to manage a team of operational staff and ensure adherence to shipping practices, procedures, and logistical requirements. You'll supervise a team engaged in both manual and clerical shipping and receiving duties, utilizing computer systems for tracking, logging, verifying, and reporting on shipments and inventory.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring compliance with shipping practices, procedures, and transportation schedules
  • Receiving incoming materials or preparing materials for shipment, including packing and unpacking items
  • Verifying quantity, weight, and quality of materials received against specifications
  • Logging receipt of items, processing freight bills, packing lists, bills of lading, and other necessary documentation
  • Managing routing to ensure accurate and timely delivery of merchandise
  • Providing tactical and technical supervision to team members, ensuring tasks are completed according to established procedures and daily service level targets
  • Communicating effectively with internal stakeholders, external customers, and vendors to resolve issues and optimize logistics
  • Providing input into hiring, firing, promotion, and performance management decisions for direct reports

Requirements include:

  • Proficiency in using computer systems for tracking and reporting shipments and inventory
  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field
  • Experience with systems thinking, quality management, and technology awareness
  • Familiarity with lean principles, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies
  • Previous experience in a role requiring supervision of shipping/receiving operations
  • Certification in logistics or supply chain management
