Job Summary

As a skilled Automotive Technician III, you will be responsible for performing routine to moderately complex maintenance and repairs on university automobiles, trucks, and heavy mechanical equipment. This role involves working with individuals from various backgrounds and requires a high level of mechanical expertise.

Responsibilities
  • Inspection
    • Identify defective, damaged, or worn parts or systems, including valves, pistons, bearings, flywheels, cooling systems, fuel and exhaust systems, brakes, ignition systems, transmissions, differentials, axles, tires, batteries, hydraulics, electronic and electrical wiring systems, filters, distributors, and starters.
    • Work with vendors and suppliers to order and receive replacement parts.
    • Notify constituents of vehicle and equipment needs before purchasing or replacing to account for budgeting needs.
    • Efficiently and effectively organize and direct schedules of repairs for the least amount of downtime for constituents needing vehicles and equipment.
  • Maintenance
    • Set inspection schedules depending on vehicle or equipment determined by use and age.
    • Maintain inspection records and logs on all vehicles and equipment.
    • Recommend equipment for surplus based on age, condition, and safety of operation.
    • Supervise student and/or casual labor workers assigned to assist the mechanic in performing tasks, including vehicle detailing, shop cleanup, equipment or vehicle fluid checks, and parts runner.
  • Inventory
    • Maintain an inventory of vehicles and equipment.
    • Keep records of repairs and purchases.
    • Perform all clerical work associated with repairs, inspections, and parts/material procurement.
    • Coordinate and correspond with constituents via phone or email regarding required repair or inspection schedules.
  • Other
    • Perform any other duties and tasks assigned or required to meet the goals of the Department, Divisions, and GCSU.
Requirements
  • Educational Requirements
    • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Other Required Qualifications
    • Valid Driver's License.
  • Required Experience
    • Five to eight years of related experience; OR Demonstrated work experience in the automotive repair industry of 10 or more years.
