Description

Position Overview:

The English Language Instruction Specialist will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in Intensive English courses, commencing in the upcoming academic term. This role involves teaching a variety of subjects to international students enrolled in the Intensive English program at Olympic College, covering essential areas such as reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, speaking, listening, pronunciation, American culture, and preparation for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Teach courses IE 15 - IE 102 in alignment with the college catalog, class schedules, course outlines, and departmental standards;
  • Ensure quality instruction through thorough preparation and assessment;
  • Provide course syllabi to students and the division office as needed;
  • Maintain accurate student records and complete necessary documentation;
  • Communicate promptly with students, faculty, and staff;
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:
  • Master's degree in TESOL, ESOL, or a related field from an accredited institution;
  • Experience working with diverse cultural and socioeconomic groups;
  • Basic computer proficiency.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience teaching English to non-native speakers;
  • Experience in developing intensive English curricula and course materials;
  • Familiarity with the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) Proficiency Guidelines;
  • Knowledge of the TOEFL exam.

Additional Information:

Terms of Employment:

This position is contracted on a quarterly basis, with salary placement based on educational qualifications and experience. The listed salary reflects a range based on quarterly teaching assignments. Flexibility is essential to meet departmental needs, which may include evening and weekend classes, as well as off-campus assignments.

Adjunct positions are continuously open and reviewed quarterly. Applicants in the pool remain active for 12 months from their application date. Submission of an application does not guarantee a position will be available.

Adjunct faculty are not eligible for benefits upon initial hire but may qualify after meeting specific workload criteria. Benefits may include retirement savings plans, sick leave, tuition waivers, and more.
