Position Overview
This role is situated within the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), specifically in the San Francisco Field Division.
Objective
The primary aim of this position is to assist the technical authority in the design, engineering, enhancement, and modifications of a comprehensive array of advanced electronic systems, including video, photographic, fixed, and mobile tracking technologies, as well as both analog and digital telecommunications.
Key Responsibilities
As a Telecommunications Operations Analyst (Surveillance), your typical duties may encompass:
- Engaging in sensitive covert operations that necessitate the installation and retrieval of electronic surveillance devices.
- Monitoring and intercepting communications to support investigative activities through the integration of electronic communication tools.
- Designing and adapting a wide variety of advanced electronic systems utilized in surveillance and data collection efforts to bolster criminal investigations and legal proceedings.
- Participating in the upkeep of covert and concealed surveillance apparatus.
- Evaluating communication networks, including radio frequency-based (e.g., cellular, radio, Wi-Fi) and internet protocol-based systems, to ascertain the most effective technological strategies (i.e., electronic surveillance, communication, and interception) for supporting investigative operations.
Qualifications
To be considered for this position, applicants must fulfill the Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR) for the Telecommunications Series, 0391, along with the Specialized Experience criteria outlined below.
Basic Requirement Education:
Applicants should possess a degree in electrical or electronic engineering, mathematics, physics, public utilities, statistics, computer science, telecommunications management, information systems management, business administration, industrial management, or other relevant fields.
Specialized Experience:
Experience in assessing, analyzing, developing, managing, or enhancing communication systems, procedures, and requirements that demonstrate knowledge of contemporary advancements and trends in communication technologies is essential.
To qualify at the GS-09 level, candidates must have one year of experience (equivalent to at least the GS-07 level) that includes:
- Assisting in the application of advanced telecommunications equipment and systems used for tracking, monitoring, and intercepting radio and digital signals.
- Supporting the configuration, installation, maintenance, and repair of telecommunications devices.
- Assisting in the planning and coordination of technical operations that require covert tactics to ensure anonymity during investigations.
