Behavioral Support Specialist

Position Summary: The Behavioral Support Specialist plays a crucial role in the implementation of individualized skill-building and behavior modification strategies, developed by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). This position requires working directly with clients in their home environments or, in exceptional cases, in educational settings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement behavior intervention plans as directed by the supervising BCBA.
- Collect and record data on client progress and behavior as instructed.
- Conduct specific assessments, such as preference assessments, under BCBA supervision.
- Maintain regular communication with the supervising BCBA regarding client progress and any unusual occurrences.
- Adhere to ethical guidelines and best practices in behavior analysis.
Reporting Structure: This position reports directly to a Supervising Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).
Position Details:
- Type: Hourly, Non-Exempt
- Supervision: None
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old and possess a high school diploma or GED.
- Experience working with children or adolescents with special needs is preferred.
- A Bachelor's Degree in psychology, special education, or a related field is advantageous.
- State certification as a special education or regular education teacher is beneficial.
- Completion of the 40-hour training for Registered Behavior Technicians (RBT) and passing the RBT examination is required for those seeking RBT status.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Understanding of behavioral intervention strategies and learning theories.
- Familiarity with ethical standards and regulations in behavior analysis.
- Strong interpersonal skills for managing crisis situations.
- Proficiency in technology and software for documentation purposes.
Essential Abilities:
- Ability to assess and respond to behavioral situations ethically and professionally.
- Competence in maintaining accurate client records and preparing reports.
- Effective communication skills with diverse groups, including clients and caregivers.
- Capability to work independently while following established guidelines.
Additional Requirements:
- Successful completion of background checks and child abuse clearances as mandated.
- Physical ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
Job Duties:
- Provide direct behavioral services to clients during individual sessions.
- Implement skill acquisition programs based on Applied Behavior Analysis.
- Complete necessary documentation, including daily reports and program records.
- Collaborate with BCBA and other professionals to execute individualized treatment plans.
- Ensure confidentiality and respect for all clients.

- Participate in required training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Comply with all relevant regulations, including HIPAA.
