Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise a team of Environmental Health Specialists and program experts, offering guidance and direction.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, including annual assessments and recommendations for promotions and disciplinary actions.
  • Review inspection reports and staff activities to ensure adherence to departmental standards.
  • Implement quality assurance measures, including joint inspections and evaluations of operational activities.
  • Ensure effective risk-based inspections are conducted to mitigate foodborne illness risks and promote active managerial control.
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure compliance and initiate enforcement actions when necessary.
  • Manage a specialized food safety program area, providing expertise and delegating responsibilities.
  • Coordinate training programs for new hires to meet departmental objectives.
  • Participate in public health emergency preparedness and response initiatives.
  • Engage in community outreach events to promote food safety awareness.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Assume leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Administrator or Team Leader.
  • Be available outside of regular business hours to support staff as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Master's degree is preferred.
  • Three to five years of experience in retail food regulation or environmental health.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Licenses/Certifications:
  • Valid driver's license and personal vehicle required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information effectively.
  • Understanding of public management principles relevant to departmental operations.
  • Familiarity with food safety regulations and standards.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively to achieve departmental goals.
  • Capability to manage stress and work in challenging environments.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications and inspection software.
Working Environment:
  • Extended periods of sitting and computer use.
  • Occasional physical activity, including walking and standing during inspections.
  • Exposure to varying environmental conditions during fieldwork.
  • Potential interaction with the public in diverse situations.
