We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Accountant to join our team at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab's (LBNL) Office of the Chief Financial Officer Division. As a key member of our financial operations team, you will be responsible for a variety of complex financial accounting, operations, and analysis functions in compliance with applicable policies, contract requirements, regulations, and laws.
Key Responsibilities- Develop, oversee, execute, and monitor financial transactions, processes, and systems, including Sophia and CPI.
- Conduct complex financial statement analysis, including general ledger account reconciliations, and prepare financial reports for internal and external audiences.
- Research, analyze, and correct complex irregularities and reconciling items in system output results and/or reconciliations.
- Lead and direct monthly and year-end close related activities, including supervising other staff members.
- Provide technical expertise in financial objectives and develop policies, techniques, and methods in accordance with Laboratory policies, Federal Acquisition Regulations, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Develop and implement solutions to complex accounting problems through in-depth evaluation and analysis.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or economics, or equivalent training and experience, and a minimum of 4 years related experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge of financial policies and procedures, including generally accepted financial principles and methodologies.
- Extensive experience in financial functions, including financial accounting transaction flows, balance sheet reconciliations, financial statement analysis, and financial report preparation.
- Advanced decision-making, problem-solving, and analytical skills to independently solve complex issues.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively prepare and deliver financial briefings, documentation, and reports.
- Masters of Business (MBA) degree.
- Certified Public Account (CPA).
- This is a full-time, career appointment, exempt from overtime pay.
- Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
- This position may be subject to a background check.
- This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule.
