How You Will Contribute

The Production Process Engineer within our operations team is tasked with the development, maintenance, and assessment of manufacturing and assembly methodologies utilized in production.

This role is pivotal in enhancing the operational capabilities at Reading Group by innovating, defining, evaluating, and executing safer, more consistent, reliable, and cost-efficient fabrication, assembly, and finishing techniques and machinery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, specify, test, and maintain documentation for production machinery, tools, gauges, jigs, and fixtures to optimize manufacturing processes, focusing on safety, quality, and efficiency by analyzing product specifications and leveraging knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials.
  • Enhance manufacturing productivity by assessing and organizing workflow, spatial requirements, and equipment arrangement.
  • Oversee assembly and manufacturing initiatives.
  • Analyze and design labor and spatial needs, product specifications, quality standards, workflow, and equipment layout to maximize the efficiency, consistency, and effectiveness of manufacturing and assembly operations.
  • Collaborate with design and production teams to create processes that yield products within established specifications.
  • Review and evaluate product sketches, designs, models, and drawings to provide recommendations for manufacturability improvements; offer design support for production initiatives.
  • Advocate for company safety protocols and devise technical solutions to enhance operational safety.
  • Work alongside maintenance teams and external contractors to upgrade existing equipment and processes, boost performance, and minimize downtime.
  • Actively engage and support the daily operations of production teams.
  • Participate in lean initiatives and refine assembly and manufacturing processes to deliver products that meet or exceed customer expectations while driving continuous improvements in safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Train and assist operations in troubleshooting and maintaining assembly and manufacturing processes, fixtures, and equipment to reduce downtime and enhance efficiency.
  • Accountable for estimating and executing projects within budgetary constraints and timelines.
Required Qualifications
  • A minimum of five years of experience in the truck body or a comparable sheet metal fabrication sector is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency in DFM, DFMEA/PFMEA methodologies and Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering/Technology, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks or other 3D modeling software.
  • Capability to supervise, mentor, and train engineering technicians and operational staff.
