Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Engineer - Buildings to join our team at Stantec. As a key member of our Buildings team, you will be responsible for leading electrical engineering projects from conceptualization to completion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical engineering projects, including conceptualization, design, and construction administration.
  • Supervise and mentor junior engineers to develop their technical skills and abilities.
  • Collaborate with clients to establish design criteria and review design progress.
  • Evaluate, select, and engineer electrical systems and products for projects.
  • Prepare and coordinate project specifications with construction documents.
  • Develop designs through sketches, engineering calculations, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
  • Prepare and review documentation in various project phases, including site plans, floor plans, diagrams, and details.
  • Lead project coordination meetings with internal team members and external consultants, clients, and contractors.
  • Conduct quality assurance and quality control on projects.
  • Develop new standards and specifications for the electrical engineering group.
  • Perform field work to review existing facility conditions and review work performed by contractors.
  • Apply technical expertise to meet project requirements within established timeframes and budget.
  • Provide client consultation and support new project proposals by developing scope, design budgets, and design approaches.
  • Act as a resource for staff in technical expertise and train them on applicable knowledge of electrical and building codes, field work, and design processes.
  • Maintain current knowledge of technologies and trends applicable to projects and market types.
  • Implement sustainable design principles into building design and surrounding environments.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of electrical engineering concepts and ability to communicate ideas effectively.
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of power distribution systems, lighting systems, and low-voltage systems for the built environment.
  • Experience in the construction industry and/or in-depth knowledge of construction processes, including construction administration roles.
  • Strong understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to apply sustainable design principles within projects.
  • Ability to integrate design elements with other disciplines at the conceptual and/or schematic programming design phase.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and standards, such as NFPA Standards, International Building Codes, and Applicable Energy Codes.
  • Strong client communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead multiple overlapping projects and design teams while maintaining project execution excellence and schedule.
  • Ability to recognize technical problems and initiate corrective actions.
  • Ability to check work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
  • Ability to give direction and feedback to senior and junior engineers and designers.
  • Ability to lead collaboration in a project team setting and engage in creative and critical thought.
  • Ability to develop sketches, drawings, building programs, and other similar materials for junior engineers and designers.
  • Ability to produce calculations based on project-specific parameters, such as load calculations, short-circuit studies, and lighting calculations.
  • Ability to produce reports and studies and interpret the findings of reports or studies prepared by others.
  • Ability to produce project-specific technical specifications independently from industry or office standard master specifications.
  • Ability to participate in project planning and budgeting with other disciplines and project leaders.
  • Working knowledge of Revit and AutoCAD and the use of them as drafting/design tools.
  • Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with AGI 32, SKM, Newforma is advantageous.
  • Working knowledge of low-voltage systems, such as telecommunications, security, and fire alarm, is advantageous but not required.
  • Experience in healthcare, laboratory, and industrial facilities is advantageous but not required.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Electrical or Architectural Engineering with a lighting/electrical emphasis. Minimum 15 years in related professional experience. Professional Engineering license required. LEED Green Associate or LEED AP preferred.

Work Environment

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements, including inclement weather.
