POSITION OVERVIEW

The Sanitation Services Specialist works under the direction of the Environmental Services Supervisor, collaborating closely with the Environmental Services Manager. The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver both routine and specialized cleaning services across various areas of the healthcare facility, including patient rooms, administrative offices, corridors, communal spaces, flooring, and public areas as designated. This ensures that the facility remains in a clean, hygienic, safe, and visually appealing state. The specialist is also tasked with the collection and transportation of both infectious and standard waste. Additional responsibilities may include unloading, restocking, and distributing linen supplies according to established quotas and levels, as well as removing soiled linens from designated areas. Work is conducted independently while adhering to the standards set by regulatory bodies, as well as organizational policies and procedures. This role requires self-initiative, creativity, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic setting.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
  1. Completes all scheduled cleaning tasks, including the cleaning of furniture, equipment, walls, ceilings, windows, sinks, toilets, blinds, light fixtures, and replenishing paper supplies.
  2. Conducts sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, dusting (including high ledges, sills, and door frames), and other cleaning duties as necessary.
  3. Collects, transports, and disposes of waste, including hazardous materials, soiled linens, and sanitizes biowaste containers according to established policies to maintain a safe and sanitary environment.
  4. Handles and disposes of cleaning chemicals in accordance with safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment.
  5. Ensures compliance with infection control standards, OSHA regulations, and safety protocols.
  6. Sorts and disposes of recyclable materials in designated containers.
  7. Maintains compliance standards during the cleaning of specialized areas within the facility (e.g., Operating Room Suites, Pharmacy Compounding Lab).
  8. Provides assistance to the Laundry department and Floor Technicians as required.
  9. Prepares, cleans, and sanitizes community rooms for meetings and events.
  10. Moves equipment and furniture as needed for cleaning purposes.
  11. Restocks supplies and materials in assigned areas and patient rooms as necessary.
  12. Inspects and verifies that all assigned areas are thoroughly cleaned and in good condition, reporting any maintenance needs immediately.
  13. Demonstrates proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  14. Participates in meetings, mandatory training sessions, and ongoing education opportunities.
  15. Adheres to all safety and sanitation regulations in accordance with applicable standards and organizational policies.
  16. Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education Level: High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred; or one to three months of relevant experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Formal Training: None required.

Licensure, Certification, Registration: None

Work Experience: Requires up to three months of relevant work experience, or any combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the role. Experience in the healthcare sector is preferred.
