Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Geotechnical Staff Professional to join our team at Universal Engineering Sciences. As a Geotechnical Staff Professional, you will be responsible for performing field and technical assignments under the guidance of mid-to-senior level geotechnical engineers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform analysis of work according to standard geotechnical procedures on simple projects or parts of more complex projects.
  • Conduct and/or review data for accuracy.
  • Assist with writing reports on routine projects, with senior review by Geotechnical Project Managers, PE's, and other senior professionals.
  • Develop, manage, and perform field work for geotechnical and geological studies in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Manage/direct drilling and sampling activities, including logging boring holes.
  • Adhere to established safety procedures.
  • Assign and track progress of lab testing.
  • Input field and lab data into computer programs.
  • Perform critical review of laboratory test results in preparation for design recommendations.
  • Analyze geotechnical findings, perform appropriate design calculations, and prepare draft reports under the direction of a Senior Engineer/Geologist.
  • Assist in the preparation and modification of reports by others.
  • Promptly notify supervisor, project manager(s) of problems or changes that arise on projects.
  • Answer calls from supervisor, project manager(s) as soon as can reasonably be expected and, if unable to answer immediately, return calls at first opportunity.
Requirements
  • B.S. in Civil Engineering/Geology or related field, M.S. in geotechnical engineering a plus.
  • E.I.T./G.I.T. registration or ability to obtain; P.E./R.G. a plus.
  • Familiarity with the principles of soil mechanics, foundation design, and slope stability.
  • Working knowledge of computer-based operating systems (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access), CAD, and the ability to learn other engineering-related programs such as GINT, Geo-Slope, Rock Pac III, CRSP.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions such as wet and/or humid environments, extreme cold and/or heat, dusty and noisy work environments.

Field work on outside construction sites involving long-term standing, sitting, and repetitive motions.

Typically, at least 50% field work and 50% office work, depending on the week/work.

Ability to use your senses to see (including close, distant, and peripheral vision, depth vision, and ability to focus), smell, hear, and touch (use your hands to reach, climb, or balance, crouch, stoop, crawl, kneel, and sit).

Some weekend and overtime work and/or overnight work and travel may be required. You may be required to drive hundreds of miles per day.
