We are excited to announce the launch of our inaugural transitional housing and reentry initiative, The Fulton Community Reentry Center (Fulton). This center will offer 140 transitional beds for men exiting incarceration who face homelessness upon release. In addition to housing, Fulton will provide essential onsite reentry services, including case management, benefits enrollment, employment assistance, health services, and support for substance use disorders. The facility operates year-round, 24/7, with some roles requiring flexible hours.

We are looking to fill three full-time Housing Specialist positions. The Housing Specialist will work closely with Case Managers and clients to facilitate the acquisition of permanent housing solutions. This role reports directly to the Housing Coordinator.

Compensation: $27.47-$28.85 per hour

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain productive relationships with landlords and property management companies.
  • Act as a liaison with the DHS Housing Placement Unit.
  • Ensure compliance with housing laws, building codes, and lease agreements by landlords and management companies.
  • Collaborate with Case Management to identify clients who are ready for housing.
  • Address and resolve conflicts or crises involving landlords and management.
  • Maintain fair housing standards while securing housing for clients.
  • Develop and update a database of available housing options.
  • Identify new housing opportunities through ongoing networking.
  • Prepare and coordinate reports related to housing codes and compliance.
  • Inform Case Management of unit readiness and any issues clients may have in maintaining their units.
  • Assist in preparing housing packages and collaborate with Case Management on necessary documentation.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.
QualificationsEducation
  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma is required.
Experience
  • Relevant work experience in NYC Housing programs, housing resources, and negotiating lease agreements with landlords or property management companies serving special needs populations.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable state and city housing and disability laws and codes.
  • Prior experience with databases such as HOME, CARES, etc.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
Additional Skills
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and attention to detail are essential.
  • Proficient writing skills are required.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with community resources.
  • Ability to effectively solve problems, make decisions, and manage conflicts.
  • Calm demeanor in crisis situations and capability to manage multiple tasks under pressure.
  • Effective collaboration with diverse groups.
  • Strong organizational skills and efficiency.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, time management, and organizational abilities are necessary.
