Job Summary

Mercy Health is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Occupational Therapist Assistant to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will play a vital role in providing patient-centered care and supporting the rehabilitation of our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in planning and implementing educational, vocational, and recreational programs established by the Occupational Therapist.
  • Instruct, motivate, and assist patients and their families in continued occupational therapy programs, as well as the care and use of adaptive equipment.
  • Observe and report patients' responses to treatments and progress, and report orally and/or in writing to the Occupational Therapist.
  • Collaborate with the Occupational Therapist and other healthcare team members to exchange and discuss patient information for planning, modifying, and coordinating treatment programs.
  • Assist in evaluating clients' daily living skills and capabilities to determine the extent of their abilities and limitations.
  • Design and adapt equipment in the working/living environment.
  • Perform clerical duties such as taking inventory, answering the telephone, taking messages, and completing forms.
  • Maintain the safety of the work environment, including equipment, and notify appropriate personnel if necessary.
  • Stay abreast of current developments and new technology in occupational therapy and may provide in-services on continuing education information to other staff members.
  • Precept students from participating colleges or universities in the direction and evaluation of clinical experience/internships.
  • Participate in the performance evaluations of other staff.
  • Provide formal orientation to new Occupational Therapy Assistants and/or Rehabilitation Aides.
  • Adhere to the standards and policies of the Corporate Responsibility Program, including the duty to comply with applicable laws and regulations, and reporting to designated Manager (or employer hotline) any suspected unethical, fraudulent, or unlawful acts or practices.
  • Embrace Standards of Behavior to provide and promote excellent customer service for internal and external customers.
  • Provide services to all age groups.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on assigned unit.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span by completing continuing education programs.
  • Interpret information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs.
  • Adhere to all standards and policies regarding safety patient/safety initiatives.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant Program.
  • Must possess (or be eligible for) certification in the State of Ohio.
  • Must possess interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with physicians, patients, and families, and analytical abilities sufficient to evaluate patient condition, capabilities, and progress.
  • CPR certification.
Working Conditions
  • Works in a normal patient care environment.
  • Requires frequent walking, standing, reaching, stooping, kneeling, bending, and handling. Exerts force of 20-50 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10 lbs. constantly.
Leadership Responsibility
  • Provides leadership to Occupational Therapist Assistant Students, Rehabilitation Aides, and/or Volunteers.
