Overall Purpose:

As the Overhead Inspection Supervisor, you will oversee and direct a team of inspectors tasked with evaluating the electrical infrastructure of Duquesne Light in accordance with the Public Utility Commission's Inspection & Maintenance Plan. This includes the assessment of wooden poles, equipment, transformers, and electrical circuits. You will also be responsible for planning annual inspections, managing budgets, creating work orders, and analyzing inspection data.

Location: Hybrid work model, primarily based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Allocate and schedule resources to fulfill the requirements of the PUC Inspection & Maintenance plan, which encompasses pole testing, equipment evaluations, and infrared inspections.
  • Delegate additional inspection tasks to team members beyond the I&M plan to enhance the safety and reliability of Duquesne Light's assets.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Asset Management, and Engineering Departments to prioritize projects and meet corporate deadlines.
  • Ensure quality assurance and quality control on inspection data; liaise with other departments to rectify data or field discrepancies.
  • Organize and generate work orders within the company's work management system.
  • Provide regular status updates to various departments to ensure project timelines are adhered to.
  • Engage in schedule and budget assessments to guarantee the timely execution of projects or inspections.
  • Work with the Training Department to develop and deliver training materials for engineering personnel regarding new or existing policies.
  • Address team safety concerns, review safety communications, and conduct internal inspections and audits.
  • Deliver training on proper pole testing methods and thermography both in classroom settings and in the field.
  • Recommend improvements to inspection procedures, including the adoption of new technologies and equipment.
  • Manage inspection equipment, ensuring it is calibrated or repaired as necessary.
  • Procure additional equipment and materials to support the inspection team.

Education and Experience:

  • A college degree in a relevant field is required; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • A minimum of five years of relevant experience is necessary.
  • Experience in electrical systems is preferred.
  • Previous supervisory experience is advantageous.
  • Experience in a unionized environment is preferred.
  • A valid driver's license is required.

  • Knowledge of OSHA and industry safety standards.
  • A motivated and enthusiastic leader with strong communication skills, capable of inspiring and guiding a team toward positive change.
  • Proven decision-making abilities and sound judgment.

Supervisory Role:

This position typically involves direct supervision of union staff and may include oversight of a small team of both staff and professional employees, serving as an entry point into leadership for those without prior experience.

Decision-Making Impact:

Responsibilities include addressing undefined problems that require thorough information gathering and analysis to resolve. Decisions made will directly influence workflow within the team.

Scope of Work:

The primary focus is on the daily management of operational tasks within the team. This includes training and developing staff, planning workflows, and directing resources to achieve process improvements.

Hybrid Work Model:

This position adheres to a hybrid work structure, requiring a minimum of two days in the office, with the remainder of the week working remotely. Specific reporting locations and frequency may vary based on departmental needs.

Storm Roles:
