POSITION OVERVIEW
The Speech-Language Therapist I/II / Advanced Speech-Language Therapist I/II role is dedicated to delivering exceptional speech and language therapy services to a primarily Native American demographic, focusing on the rehabilitation of individuals with diverse developmental, cognitive, and emotional challenges. This position involves the planning and execution of medically oriented speech therapy for both inpatient and outpatient settings, adhering to a standard work week without weekend services.
The responsibilities include:
- Conducting comprehensive assessments and interpreting evaluation results for patients across all age groups, from infancy to geriatrics, while ensuring accurate documentation in electronic health records.
- Formulating individualized speech therapy treatment plans based on physician referrals or collaborative consultations with medical professionals, establishing achievable treatment objectives tailored to the patient's unique physical and mental capabilities.
- Adapting and modifying therapy strategies in response to the patient's progress, meticulously documenting all aspects of assessment, treatment, follow-up, and service conclusion in patient records.
- Designing and implementing therapeutic activities aligned with the patient's goals and requirements, while educating patients, families, and staff on effective speech-language techniques and home programs to facilitate the integration of therapeutic goals into daily routines.
- Providing specialized services, including but not limited to swallowing assessments, Videofluoroscopy (VFSS), Modified Barium Swallowing (MBS), Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES), cognitive therapy, voice therapy, pediatric speech/language therapy, and pediatric feeding assessments.
- Participating in specialty clinics such as Geriatric clinic and Assistive Technology evaluations.
- Assisting in the development and enhancement of the speech therapy service, focusing on continuous quality improvement, risk management, and safety protocols.
- Ensuring compliance with federal and state certification requirements for speech therapy, adhering to organizational policies and procedures, and following the guidelines set forth by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association.
- Providing training and educational sessions for students and staff, collaborating with the Physical Rehabilitation team and other healthcare professionals.
- Performing additional duties as assigned, while maintaining the necessary medical staff credentialing privileges.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an institution accredited by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA).
- If the candidate lacks certification of clinical competence and is eligible for Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) upon hire, they must complete the post-graduate Clinical Fellowship Year and obtain certification of clinical competence within 18 months of employment.
- Must possess and maintain certification of clinical competence in Speech-Language Pathology from ASHA or be eligible for Clinical Fellowship Year.
- The applicant must hold a valid, current, and unrestricted Speech-Language Pathology license from the Arizona Department of Health or any state within the United States, the District of Columbia, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or must obtain Temporary Speech-Language Pathology licensure from the Arizona Department of Health.
Certification:
Must maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the American Heart Association throughout employment.
Credentialing:
The applicant must fulfill the requirements for credentialing to serve on the Medical Staff, providing all necessary information for the credentialing process.
Experience:
- Speech-Language Therapist I: Less than 2 years of experience as a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist.
