Role Summary:
The Clinical Pharmacist is responsible for the preparation and dispensing of medications while ensuring cost-effective therapeutic options, monitoring for potential adverse effects and drug interactions. This role involves collaboration with medical staff regarding medication therapy and providing patient education on medication usage as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
• Efficiently and accurately processes IV and unit dose physician orders as well as outpatient prescriptions in accordance with legal and departmental standards, minimizing unnecessary interruptions.
• Exhibits strong assessment skills to evaluate situations, consider alternatives, and select appropriate actions in fulfilling orders, offering drug information, and resolving issues. This capability is utilized to enhance outcomes through effective communication with physicians and providing relevant drug information, supported by appropriate documentation that reflects a positive impact on patient care.
• Enhances the Pharmacy's reputation by actively engaging in clinical initiatives such as creating drug information resources (newsletters, memos, dosing charts, guidelines, in-service training, drug class reviews, etc.) for pharmacy, nursing, or medical staff, or by contributing to the development of programs and procedures (such as order sets, protocols, guidelines, etc.) that improve patient care or facilitate education (hospital or community) as evidenced by documentation. Distinguished contributors are involved in four or more activities.
• Initiates or oversees projects, in addition to routine staffing responsibilities, that contribute to departmental efficiency and undertakes additional duties as assigned by management. Distinguished contributors engage in two or more activities.
• Communicates effectively and clearly with relevant personnel regarding issues, changes, or observations, and the actions taken to prevent adverse events in patient care. This includes verbal and written communication to management and submission of reports through the Patient Safety Reporting System. Provides guidance to technicians; communicates in a constructive manner to ensure timely completion of assignments. Distinguished contributors offer solutions to identified challenges and provide direction to technicians when performance expectations are not met.

• Licensed as a Pharmacist in the state of North Carolina.
