We are seeking a highly motivated Correctional Education Specialist to join our team at Marion Technical College. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled professional to make a meaningful impact in the lives of students and faculty within our correctional education programs.

About the Position:

This part-time position, up to 29 hours per week, requires strong customer service skills and the ability to work independently with minimal direction. The successful candidate will provide administrative support to the department, assist with operational and administrative tasks, and help maintain accurate records and reports.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Respond to student inquiries, College employees, and customers in a timely manner while maintaining confidentiality and privacy.
  2. Develop and maintain a strong knowledge base of academic programs to assist the Coordinator with day-to-day activities.
  3. Participate in developing departmental goals, objectives, and assessments, and assist in evaluating reports, decisions, and results related to established goals.
  4. Assist with operational and administrative support of College technology-related hardware, software, and services, including user account administration and academic lab support.
  5. Organize and administer student support services to meet the College's and correctional instructional needs, maintaining accurate records and providing reports in a timely manner.
  6. Communicate and organize curricular materials with adjunct faculty members, order textbooks and resource materials, and assist with academic advising under supervision.
  7. Network and promote programs within the correctional community, possessing exceptional organizational skills to manage and develop prison education programs.
  8. Administer computer labs to support student instructional needs, maintain knowledge of current and changing computer technology, and coordinate scheduling.
  9. Expand knowledge-base of MCI, NCCC, and Camp requirements, adhere to ODRC policies and procedures, and maintain CEA accreditation standards.
  10. Serve as liaison with library, main campus IT, and other services to advance student success, handle unanticipated discretionary matters, and maintain flexibility to meet correctional classroom schedules.
  11. Serve on internal and external committees as assigned, adhere and monitor safety practices, rules, and regulations within the College and correctional systems.
  12. Develop professional opportunities within scope of work responsibilities, department, and College objectives, demonstrating self-motivation and willingness to research and update knowledge and skills.

Requirements:

  • Associate's degree in Business, Information Technology, or related field required.
  • 3 years of general office and strong customer service experience required.
  • Any combination of work experience, training, and/or education equivalent may be accepted.
  • Exhibit excellent English, communication, and composition writing skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook) with excellent computer and related technology skills required.
  • Demonstrate exceptional organizational skills, the ability to work independently and complete projects with minimal direction.

Educational Requirements:

A bachelor's degree in a relevant field is preferred but not required.

Work Environment:

The ideal candidate will have experience working in a correctional setting and possess a valid driver's license or dependable transportation.

Salary Range:

$45,000-$55,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience.
