Position Summary:

The Environmental Compliance Specialist is expected to be adaptable, possessing strong technical and analytical capabilities, along with exceptional verbal and written communication skills necessary for effective coordination with clients and team members. This role entails preparing technical documentation and regulatory submissions while ensuring that all activities are conducted safely and in compliance with relevant procedures and regulations. The position involves both office and fieldwork.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Possess a solid understanding of federal and state environmental, land use, and construction regulations.
  • Prepare application materials, including the compilation of project drawings, sketches, and supporting documentation required to secure major construction permits and approvals.
  • Draft reports and other documentation regarding existing conditions and analyses of potential environmental impacts in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Engage with federal and state regulatory and resource agencies, clients, project managers, and designers to obtain necessary project documents and discuss required permits.
  • Create a project construction permit matrix for each assigned project, detailing required permits, approval timelines, and necessary information for permit acquisition.
  • Provide weekly status updates to the Licensing & Permitting Manager regarding the permitting status of all assigned projects.
  • Interpret environmental and construction documents while developing a proactive approach to project permitting.
  • Demonstrate confidence in navigating challenging technical environments, managing multiple tasks, and contributing to team efforts under tight deadlines.
  • Fieldwork experience for wetland or ecological studies is a plus.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in obtaining environmental and construction-related permits and approvals.
  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering, planning, environmental science, construction management, or a related field.
  • Exceptional communication and project tracking skills, with the ability to collaborate with a diverse range of individuals, including non-technical personnel.
  • Strong writing proficiency.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • A valid driver’s license.
