VACANCY NOTICE: Communication Specialist

QUALIFICATIONS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Master's Degree in a relevant field
- Valid certification for Speech and Language Pathology
- Current driver's license
- Evaluates students' communication abilities (e.g. articulation, fluency, voice, expressive and receptive language) to identify communication challenges, determine eligibility for services, and formulate treatment recommendations.
- Engages with various stakeholders (e.g. parents, educators, healthcare professionals, administration, and other specialists) to share information, address concerns, and deliver services in accordance with established protocols.
- Facilitates meetings and processes for eligible students (e.g. assessments, individualized education plans, parent consultations) to present evaluation findings, create action plans, and provide training to families and staff.
- Designs intervention strategies and educational resources to mitigate the impact of communication disorders while adhering to regulatory standards.
- Instructs eligible students on the use of assistive communication technologies (e.g. hearing aids, FM systems, augmentative communication devices) to reduce the educational impact of communication disorders in compliance with legal requirements.
- Interprets medical documentation relevant to the field of Speech/Language Pathology to ensure that intervention strategies are suitable.
- Maintains comprehensive records (e.g. progress reports, activity logs, billing information, individualized education plans) to ensure information is readily available for reference and compliance.
- Participates in professional development opportunities (e.g. training sessions, team meetings) to share and gather information.
- Performs additional duties as assigned to support the effective operation of the district.
- Conducts site visits, including home visits, to provide therapy and support as needed. Prepares various written materials (e.g. activity logs, correspondence, reports) to document activities and convey information.
- Delivers speech and language therapy to students to alleviate the negative effects of speech and language disorders on academic success.
