Position Overview
The University of Kansas Health System is seeking dedicated Pharmacy Technician professionals to join our Inpatient Pharmacy team. This role operates on a unique schedule of 7 days on, followed by 7 days off, with shifts from 7:30 PM to 7:00 AM. Our team members enjoy additional compensation for midnight and weekend shifts.
As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the precise preparation and distribution of medications. Your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting in the accurate filling of medication orders and maintaining meticulous records to ensure timely medication delivery.
- Preparing a variety of medications, including intravenous solutions, chemotherapy agents, total parenteral nutrition, and other specialized compounds.
- Utilizing computer systems for the input of medication orders and retrieval of essential patient information.
- Supporting the management of pharmacy inventory in compliance with regulatory standards, while consistently reporting any medication discrepancies.
- Ensuring the prompt distribution of prescribed medications and stock items as required.
- Demonstrating effective communication skills and maintaining awareness of departmental activities.
- Engaging in personal development and competency validation to enhance professional growth.
- Contributing to the training and orientation of new pharmacy staff and students.
- Participating in quality management initiatives aimed at improving pharmacy services.
- Performing additional duties as assigned, while maintaining the ability to fulfill the professional competencies required for the role.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.
- At least one year of experience as a pharmacy technician in a hospital setting.
Licensure and Certification Requirements
- Certification as a Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) upon hire.
- Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the State Board of Pharmacy upon hire.
- Ongoing maintenance of certification and completion of continuing education requirements is mandatory.
