Position Overview:
The Senior Analyst in Leveraged Credit plays a pivotal role in the continuous evaluation of designated sectors within the corporate bond and loan portfolios managed by Western & Southern Life. This position emphasizes both industry-specific and company-focused fundamentals, alongside relative value assessments, risk positioning, and security-specific trading strategies that align with the overall client objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct in-depth research on assigned credit sectors, assessing fundamental characteristics, trends, opportunities, and associated risks. This research involves regular collaboration with colleagues across various investment research teams, including those focused on investment-grade credit, leveraged credit, emerging markets debt, and equity.
- Deliver timely recommendations for purchasing, selling, and adjusting positions regarding security selection and sector allocation to portfolio managers, traders, and credit research teams, emphasizing relative value, strategic goals, risk considerations, liquidity, and execution capabilities.
- Stay informed on industry developments, trends, and controversies within assigned coverage areas, providing relevant and timely updates to credit research teams, portfolio managers, and senior leadership. This includes commentary on new issues and regular reviews of sector positioning for credit investment strategies.
- Act as the sector portfolio manager for assigned areas, collaborating directly with portfolio managers to determine positioning within various fixed income strategies.
- Build and maintain relationships with external research, sales, trading, and industry management teams as appropriate.
- Comprehend third-party total return and internal asset-liability management (ALM) strategies, objectives, risk tolerances, and constraints.
- Contribute actively to discussions regarding corporate credit valuation and strategy, working alongside portfolio managers and peers to assist in top-down risk allocations to credit sectors.
- Collaborate with portfolio managers, account administrators, operations, and marketing teams within Western & Southern Life, as well as other departments.
- Perform additional duties as assigned and adhere to all policies and standards.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related quantitative field (Required).
- Master's Degree or MBA (Preferred).
- Typically eight or more years of demonstrated success in fundamental credit and/or equity analysis (Required).
- Proven ability to effectively influence groups towards recommended actions (Required).
- Track record of delivering superior performance.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and concisely to both internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong interpersonal skills, capable of interacting with all levels of staff and management.
- Demonstrated analytical capabilities.
- Ability to conceptualize and implement new methodologies.
- Proven capacity to manage multiple deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Strong quantitative and mathematical skills.
- Commitment to continuous improvement and excellence.
- Team-oriented mindset, with examples of going above and beyond to support colleagues.
- Proficient in Bloomberg and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong Excel modeling skills; knowledge of VBA is a plus.
- Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation upon hire (Preferred).
Work Environment:
- This role is primarily office-based, requiring prolonged periods of sitting while working at a desk or using standard office equipment. Visual acuity is necessary for reading various documents and analyzing data. Extended hours may be required during peak workloads or special projects.
