The Rehabilitation Specialist is tasked with conducting comprehensive patient assessments, devising and executing treatment strategies, tracking patient advancements towards therapeutic objectives, liaising with referring medical professionals, and meticulously documenting and finalizing daily billing records.


Job Relationships
Reports to the Director of Rehabilitation Services

Key Responsibilities

Conduct assessment procedures including:

evaluation of range of motion, circumferential measurements of anatomical regions, neurological and manual muscle assessments, developmental motor evaluations, and analysis of posture, gait, and functional tasks.

Analyze assessment findings to ascertain the level of impairment, assist in differential diagnoses, and contribute to the formulation and adjustment of treatment specifics.

Develop treatment plans based on the patient's concerns, physician referrals, review of medical documentation, and assessment outcomes.
Establish suitable objectives for treatment aimed at alleviating pain, restoring functionality, and preventing disability.
Identify contraindications to treatment and suggest necessary modifications.

Administer modalities such as electrotherapy, hydrotherapy, cryotherapy, traction, and massage techniques in accordance with established protocols and within the limits dictated by patient condition and tolerance.

Implement therapeutic exercises to enhance posture, strength, range of motion, coordination, and endurance.
Facilitate the fitting and application of prescribed orthotic devices.
Educate patients on the use of assistive devices and physical therapy techniques to be continued at home.
Monitor treatment effects and adjust techniques to maximize benefits.
Document initial assessments and progress reports for the patient's medical records.
Communicate progress or changes in the patient's condition to the referring physician as necessary.
Ensure accurate validation of treatment provided for the completion of billing records.
Assist in timely scheduling for patients.
Provide guidance and oversight to Rehabilitation Assistants and other support staff.
Maintain a professional demeanor.
Ensure a clean, organized, and orderly work environment.
Strive to ensure patient comfort and privacy.
Communicate effectively in person or via telephone.
Utilize supplies efficiently.
Assist in maintaining equipment and report any issues to the Director.
Demonstrate knowledge of emergency procedures and protocols.
File incident reports for any occurrences that may expose the individual or facility to liability.
Inform the Director of any situations that require consideration beyond the responsibilities of the Rehabilitation Specialist.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Comply with incident reporting policies and procedures.
Adhere to all training and compliance requirements as mandated.
Deliver exceptional customer service and uphold the organization's service philosophy.

Education/Experience
Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Therapy.

Licenses/Certificates
Licensed by the State of Illinois.
Preferred membership in the American Rehabilitation Association, though not mandatory.
CPR certification in accordance with American Heart Association guidelines required within a specified timeframe of hire.

Working Environment
Involves extensive walking, standing, kneeling, and lifting of heavy objects.
