Must-Have: Bachelor's Degree including specific semester hours in biological sciences, chemistry, and mathematics. Alternately, an Associate's Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology for incumbents in the position prior to 2005

Job Responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Laboratory Section Supervisor and/or Laboratory Manager with operational and technical management of assigned sections.
  • Ensure day-to-day operations run smoothly and serve as a resource for problem-solving.
  • Respond to workload changes and adjust work assignments as necessary in the absence of the supervisor.
  • Ensure timely and appropriate specimen handling, delivery, testing, results reporting, and customer service.
  • Perform procedures within established turnaround times and conduct proficiency testing with accurate documentation.
  • Enforce adherence to protocols and handle medical lab scientist tasks during peak workloads.
  • Demonstrate fiscal responsibility by managing supplies efficiently.
  • Assign tasks to staff, train, and assess the competency of students and personnel in the section.
  • Contribute to performance appraisals and participate in the selection of personnel.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and infection control protocols.
  • Maintain regulatory standards and address non-compliance issues with the section supervisor.
  • Perform statistical analysis and report on data and quality control measures.
  • Oversee QC and reagent lot transitions and recommend remedial actions as needed.
  • Engage in all other assigned duties within the job scope and responsibilities.
