Compensation Overview

The salary range for this position reflects a nationwide market range and varies based on several factors, including the role's complexity, location, and the candidate's qualifications. In addition to a competitive salary, employees are eligible for performance-based cash incentives as part of our comprehensive benefits program.

What Is the Opportunity?

Join a motivated and collaborative team as a trademark paralegal, where you will play a vital role in our intellectual property legal group. In this position, you will work closely with legal team members, business units, and other stakeholders to safeguard, maintain, and enforce Travelers' trademark rights both domestically and internationally. You will also support various copyright, domain name, and other intellectual property initiatives.

This role offers a hybrid work arrangement and can be based in either Hartford or St. Paul.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee a comprehensive domestic and international trademark portfolio, collaborating with in-house trademark counsel to manage all aspects of trademark prosecution, maintenance, and enforcement.
  • Assist in preparing and electronically submitting trademark applications, responses to office actions, Statements of Use, and renewal documents to the USPTO.
  • Collaborate with internal clients to draft descriptions of goods and services, gather necessary documentation, and review trademark specimen of use.
  • Manage trademark applications from prosecution to registration, including renewals and post-registration obligations.
  • Conduct preliminary trademark searches and analyze comprehensive trademark reports for attorney review.
  • Coordinate with foreign counsel on international trademark prosecution and maintenance requirements.
  • Engage with external trademark vendors and manage vendor Watch Notices.
  • Educate clients on proper trademark usage and protection.
  • Review marketing materials and website content for compliance with trademark standards.
  • Support trademark license quality control assessments.
  • Assist in enforcing trademark, copyright, and domain name rights.
  • Prepare trademark docket and status reports as necessary.
  • Manage document legalization processes.
  • Assist with U.S. and foreign assignment recordation tasks.
  • Review communications for compliance with copyright and intellectual property regulations.
  • Participate in special administrative and legal research projects as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications

  • A minimum of five years of experience as a Trademark Paralegal in a law firm or corporate environment.
  • Bachelor's Degree or Paralegal Certification from an ABA-Certified program.
  • Proficient in conducting and analyzing trademark clearance searches using online resources.
  • Strong internet research capabilities.
  • Familiarity with trademark docketing software and search tools (e.g., Corsearch, Saegis).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to identify and address trademark-related issues proactively.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects effectively and work under pressure.
  • Capability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Experience with copyright matters.

Minimum Requirements

  • At least two years of paralegal experience or related work experience; or a combination of an Associate/Bachelor's Degree or Paralegal Certification from an ABA-Certified program and one year of relevant experience.
