Role Overview

The Certified Surgical First Assistant plays a crucial role in facilitating successful surgical operations. This position involves assisting surgeons by managing surgical instruments, maintaining the sterile field, and ensuring patient safety throughout the procedure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of operating room protocols, including attire, infection control, and sterile techniques.
  • Support surgeons during procedures by efficiently passing instruments and assisting with various tasks as needed.
  • Adhere to all HIPAA regulations to maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Communicate professionally and courteously with patients, medical staff, and visitors, ensuring a respectful environment.
  • Follow established policies and procedures to uphold safety standards in the workplace.
  • Act as a resource for other healthcare team members, providing guidance and support as necessary.

Qualifications Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Completion of a Surgical Technician Program
  • Certification as a Surgical First Assistant from NBSTSA is mandatory
  • A minimum of two years of experience as a Certified Surgical First Assistant across various specialties, or a combination of education and experience
  • Ability to handle situations involving concrete variables in standardized contexts, along with a general understanding of medical terminology related to surgical procedures
