About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate individual to join our team as a Community Social Services Specialist. As a key member of our Social Services Administration, you will play a vital role in improving the wellbeing and safety of citizens' lives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work with the elderly, disabled, and/or families with dependent children to provide training in household management, personal care, and community living skills.
  • Demonstrate, accompany, and work alongside clients to show them how to manage money, select and prepare nutritious and inexpensive meals, care for the family and/or the family's personal health and cleanliness.
  • Discuss basic child reading practices and discipline techniques.
  • Take clients to medical, social, and educational resources to assure they receive services.
  • Assist them occasionally in locating housing or job placements and working out details of furnishings, transportation, or day care as needed.
  • Occasionally lead recreational activities, may conduct group classes in sewing, cooking, etc. when several clients are identified with similar needs.
Requirements
  • General knowledge of policies, procedures, rules, state and federal law as related to governmental operations.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Ability to express ideas and communicate clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, administrative officials, and the general public.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Basic knowledge and/or ability to use office equipment, software systems, internet-based programs.
  • Ability to analyze, prioritize, plan, and execute work timely and accurately.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated possession of knowledge, skills, and abilities gained through at least one year of experience in performing tasks similar to the ones assigned.
  • And, must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Benefits

We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including healthcare, supplemental plans, and retirement programs. Our benefits include:

  • Health: We offer a high-deductible health plan with a $3000 deductible (Single). This program includes a Health Savings Account (HSA). Employee-only coverage is completely funded by the County, PLUS the County contributes $1000 to the HSA annually.
  • Dental: Our dental plan provides for preventive services, such as cleanings each year, at 100%. There is a $25 deductible for other services. Basic services pay at 80% and other major services at 50%. The County contributes $14.47 per month for employee coverage.
  • Voluntary Plans: Employees may choose from a variety of plans arranged through Mark III Benefits. These include AFLAC Accident, Critical Illness, and Hospital Indemnity plans; Allstate Cancer; Texas Life Whole Life; and Superior Vision plans. In addition, we offer Short-term and Long-term disability.
  • Life Insurance: The County provides $10,000 Basic Life insurance for employees. An employee may choose to purchase additional voluntary term life insurance.
  • Retirement: Pension is offered through the N.C. Local Government Employees' Retirement System. Employees are required to contribute 6% of gross wages toward their account. The County also contributes at 7.58% (law enforcement 8.25%).
  • 401(k) and 457: Supplemental retirement plans administered by Empower. For the 401(k) plan, employees contributing a minimum of 1% are eligible for the County contribution of 2.5% toward their account. Employees contributing at least 3% or greater are eligible for a County Contribution of 3%. Law Enforcement Officers receive a 5% County contribution. The 401(k) plan offers both pre-tax and Roth after-tax contributions. The 457 plan is tax-deferred with no minimum contribution requirements.
  • Longevity Pay: The County offers longevity pay to employees with at least 5 years of continuous service.
