Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Facilities Maintenance Technician to join our team at the Rural Alaska Community Action Program. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing routine maintenance and repair tasks under supervision, including participating in an on-call rotation for emergency services, of RurAL CAP Affordable Housing (RCAH) properties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct routine mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry repairs under supervision.
  • Assist in preparing units for occupancy per HQS standards after move-outs.
  • Perform general lawn maintenance and snow removal to enhance property safety and aesthetics.
  • Execute routine custodial and janitorial tasks as scheduled.
  • Maintain an organized inventory of materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to address emergency maintenance issues.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED and six (6) months experience general maintenance and repairs of multiple dwelling rental property facilities.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and follow established policies and procedures.
  • Ability to manage work time well, prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to exercise good judgement, courtesy and tact.
  • Ability to establish a good rapport with people of diverse cultures and belief systems.
Work Environment

The Rural Alaska Community Action Program is a mandated tobacco, drug and alcohol-free workplace. You will be working in a fast-paced environment with a team of professionals who are dedicated to improving the quality of life for low-income Alaskans.

You will be required to use computers and computer programs effectively to enter data, create spreadsheets and process information, and develop documents, program and training materials.

You must have the ability to operate the following equipment: desktop computer, telephone, copier, PC printer, and fax machine.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly to grasp, type, see, talk, hear, and lift and carry 50 pounds of weight by utilizing proper lifting techniques and working in a safe manner.

This position will also be performing physical activities such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, bending, and handling materials.

Occasionally performs sedentary activities that require sitting for long periods and repetitive use of hands, wrists and arms for handling, positioning, moving materials, and manipulating things.

You must be in good general health and free from serious physical, mental health and/or substance abuse problems.

Ability to physically perform required maintenance and labor tasks.

Possible exposure to hazardous equipment tools and contaminants such as mold, dust, household cleaning solvents, paints and fertilizers.

Works indoors and outdoors, exposure to various weather conditions.

Ability to maintain mental and physical alertness during work hours.
